When & How to Prepare for a Saline Enema (Fleet or Cleen trademarks).

___________________________________________________________

I just wish to state some preparations (3 days before & on the day) prior to anal training. Do your best with these.

1. This may not be possible due to your culture. Do not eat spicy food 3 days before our session, as it can irritate the bowels.
2. For 3 days before our session, drink plenty of fluids.
3. Eat only lightly on the session day. (This means no 5-course lunches!). Drink plenty of fluids.
4. Make sure that you have a poo before our session. Use wet wipes (bin do not flush) rather than toilet paper.
5. If you can do purchase a saline enema kit (Fleet or Cleen trademarks) at a High Street chemist or online.

When & How to Prepare for a Saline Enema (Fleet or Cleen trademarks).

Enemas are safe and easy to use. You use them to clean the lower half of your large bowel (sigmoid colon).

Use the enema after recently passing a bowel motion (a poo).
Use 1 and a half hours before travelling to your appointment.

Type of Enema
Saline: An agent that increases water in the intestine, which promotes a bowel movement. For example, Fleet® Enema.

Bottle Design
The bottle an anatomically correct comfortip assures ease of insertion, protective shield prevents contamination, one way safety value controls flow and prevent reflux and easy grip, easy squeeze round bottle.

How to Prepare
Read the instructions on the packet/tube carefully.
Do not eat for at least 30 minutes before using the enema.
Wash hands thoroughly both before and after use (or wear disposable gloves if possible).
Make sure you can get to a toilet easily.
Find a comfortable place to lie down.
Have a towel to lie on.
Wash the anal area with a clean, warm cloth. If you have concerns about possible discomfort, apply petroleum jelly (Vaseline) to the anal area.
Warm the enema in a bowl or sink of warm water.
Once you have warmed the enema in a bowl or sink of warm water, pull the lid off the nozzle. Hold the bottle upright so the contents do not spill.
Avoid touching the tip with your fingers.

How to use
Lie on your left hand side, on the towel, e.g. on the floor. Bend the right knee up toward your chest as far as comfortable and place a rolled towel beneath it for support.

Use your right hand to gently push the nozzle about 7cm (3in) into your anus.
Slowly squirt the contents in. Remove the nozzle once you have finished and stay lying down.

How long should you hold the liquid in your rectum before you use the bathroom?
Try to hold the liquid in your bottom for as long as you can – five minutes, if possible.
Go to the toilet when you can no longer hold it and you really feel like emptying your bowels.
For Fleet® Saline Enema, if no urge is felt after 5 minutes of using, try to empty bowel.

Stay near the toilet for the next hour.
The effects of the enema will wear off after one hour at most.
Some people have stomach cramps for a short time after using the enema.
